Harry and Sarah Mayman live with their three children in an 18th Century farmhouse on the edge of Bodmin Moor in Cornwall with a 15-acre smallholding The land had been very overgrown when they first moved in, with assortment of 5 ft high weeds and no grass.

They were introduced to the South West Angora Group at the Royal Cornwall Show three years ago, who had endless energy to extol the virtues of the Angora goat, the producers of the wonderful fibre, mohair. They were brought onto the farm as the most efficient of land clearers with the best of temperaments and made swift work of turning the jungle into fair pasture. Attending regular meetings with the group introduced them to the wonders of mohair socks and natural fibre products.

Having a penchant for all things of quality, beauty and softness: The Wool Company was conceived and born.

They have an exclusive fibre made for them, of the softest kid mohair creating out-of-this-world luxury socks for adults and children of walking age. They also have a range of fine alpaca socks. All the socks are manufactured in Great Britain to a traditional quality that we were once famous for, on one of the last working circular knitting machines of its type in the world.

To complement the sock range, they have discovered the oldest textile mill in Australia, that produces sumptuous merino wool and lambswool, alpaca and mohair products for the home using only the finest quality Australian natural fibres, seeing thorough the whole manufacturing process from beginning to end ensuring superlative quality control. All of their products are manufactured without the use of harmful chemicals or bleaching agents that could harm the environment.

They also have a range of West Country tanned sheepskins, unusual in as much as they are all carefully selected for their uniqueness in colours and softness.
