Why would you choose wool duvets over synthetic or down and feather?
Will I be too hot?
Of all fibres, wool offers the best thermal properties for bedding. Its natural crimp structure holds millions of tiny air pockets for even distribution of warmth at an optimum temperature. Combined with its ability to absorb moisture and then disperse it into the surrounding air, means like no other material it maintains a balanced thermal insulation; warm in winter and cool in summer.
Wool has microscopic pores that respond effectively to changes in humidity therefore making it suitable bedding for every climate
Wool can absorb 30 times its own weight in moisture, synthetic fibres just 2-3 times before it feels damp to the touch.
Naturally fire resistant
Wool is naturally flame resistant. It is difficult to ignite, has low flame spread and heat release properties; it does not melt and has superior self-extinguishing properties.
Does it smell like wool?
No
Will it maintain its shape?
Wool has a complex coiled structure and this gives it great resilience against becoming flat and hard. Unlike down and feather, you can sit or lie on your duvet in the knowledge it will stay bouncy.
Wool is naturally anti – microbial
Wool naturally regulates humidity and temperature to a point that makes it unfavourable for the growth and breeding of the house dust mite. Other fibres such as synthetic and down do not provide this regulated temperature.
Feathers and down have high concentrations of oil to keep the fowl dry. Synthetic fibres are manufactured from petroleum products. The oil of the feather and down and in the synthetic fibres makes these products very inefficient at absorbing and evaporating moisture but do create a better environment for the mites.
Down and feathers, which, although are a natural product, have another factor that contributes to allergies. Feathers have an open-ended quill. When the feathers are on the bird, these are sealed, but once plucked the hollow structure provide a perfect breeding ground for these microscopic organisms.
Less cleaning
Because of wools natural ability to resist both wet and dry soiling, wool makes a perfect fibre for bedding. Stains are more readily released during cleaning.
Longer lasting – better value for money
Because of wool’s natural resilience, it will maintain its shape for years.
Can I wash my wool duvet?
Our Micraloft duvet is fully machine washable and tumble dryable. This is made with 100% pure wool, but has been through a special treatment allowing it to be washable. This makes it perfect for children and hotel businesses that expect the very best quality without any compromise.
Our luxury lambswool duvet is not machine washable, but will only require dry cleaning once a year or so, with regular airing to stay fresh.
Eco friendly. A naturally renewable and sustainable fibre.
In a world that is increasingly concerned about the environment and animal cruelty, wool can be bought in the knowledge that it is a totally natural product and entirely renewable and sustainable. It is also 100% biodegradable. |
