Details

This amazing work of art has been created on an incredibly fine, very precious and rare cashmere. The base pashmina was created in the 1990's with an extremely rare cashmere of 8.3 micron, the very finest wool on the planet. When the cashmere was collected from the nomads of Changthang in Ladakh, Northern India there were no machines to card the fleece, so it was all done by hand. The fleece was then hand spun in Budgam, Jammu & Kashmir and hand loomed in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. The process of hand weaving this piece took about 24 hours and it is a twill weave. The traditional patterns are imprinted by a carved walnut wood block. This piece will have taken about 720 hours to embroider and finish.

The shawl will be presented in a gift box wrapped in hand dyed silk with silk ribbons.

Yarn Count: 125-145

Size: 100 x 200 cm

100% Pashmina with silk and cotton embroidery.

One of the remarkable aspects of these shawls is that the embroidery has a very tidy almost identical pattern on the reverse of the shawl as on the front.

This shawl was photographed on our mannequin and has been very carefully treated and carefully re-packed.

If you would like to know more about these remarkable shawls, we highly recommend a book called 'The Kashmir Shawl' by Rosie Thomas. Although fictional, it is very detailed in where these shawls are made and the journey to make them.
