Sourced in June 2022 from Mr Tsering of Koyul Village, where his family have herded goats for generations. Winter temperatures here can fall below –15°C. In this harsh climate, the goats grow an exceptionally fine undercoat that naturally insulates against the cold. These fibres, selected from the softest Grade A batches, are known for their lightness, warmth and incredible softness. The coarse guard hairs are removed by hand through the process of scouring, carding and dehairing.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"1091\"\u003eSpinning the baby soft pashmina by hand is an art found only in the homes of Kashmir, where spinning is a traditional culture. The soft fibre is converted into yarn with a thickness ranging from 110-140 English count. Modern machinery would not be able to achieve this fine count without a carrier fibre to stop the cashmere fibres from breaking. It takes approximately one month to handspin 100 gms of pashmina yarn. \u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"1091\"\u003eWoven in Srinagar by Mr Mohammad Shabbir, using a technique called Ecotoosh, which was developed for the 'Toosh Revival'. Ecotoosh is more difficult to work with as the fibres are shorter than the standard fibre lengths of cashmere, making the yarn extremely delicate. \u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEmbroidery on Ecotoosh is more time-consuming than usual due to the delicate nature of the fabric. Carried out by Mr Javed Ahmed in a classic Sozni style of hand embroidery, similar to that done on the old tradition of Shatoosh shawls.
