Village Greens 16th October 2019

Village Greens is The Wool Company's local weekly community shop and cafe, selling local produce, groceries, cleaning products and lots more. It's open in the Hall in Mount from 9am til 2pm every Friday, and everyone is welcome. Please do go along and support it.

The "pig with hangover" turned out to be "pig with man-flu" which (as we know) can prove fatal, so after a visit from the vet who administered the first dose of antibiotics I was left with the fun of injecting the second dose, and treating the others who were showing symptoms 24 hours later. One of the best ways to manoeuvre a porky patient is bribery with food, but this becomes problematic if man-flu has suppressed the appetite. He flatly refused to be coaxed into the impromptu pig-clinic, but the sight of a needle helped him find the strength in his trotters to gallop off. We continued for some time with this game of cat and mouse, until later that afternoon I sneaked up on him while asleep (exhausted from all the running) and treated him against his will. All the pigs are now recovering well, and have their snouts firmly back in the trough. In a parallel universe, my mum has attended surgery for her flu jab. Presumably the staff will not have to coax her with food, stealth, or even brute force, depriving everyone of a battle of wits and a good work out.

Lots of local food for sale this week, including new season lamb, special offer on pairs of chops, all packs rounded down to the nearest ££. There's also packs of mince, perfect for a tasty shepherds pie or mousaka, and joints for roasting. Veggies include cabbage, calabrese, cauliflower, spinach and leeks. There are more local apples, and hopefully some more freshly pressed juice.

We are so pleased that so many people in the area are trying to reduce the use of single use plastic, by coming and buying refills. To respond to demand we have now increased the range, so bring your containers for:-

Washing up liquid, Laundry liquid, Shampoo, Conditioner, Toilet Cleaner, Bathroom cleaner, and for  foods Milk chocolate & plain chocolate buttons and Olive oil

But WE NEED PLASTIC BOTTLES for cleaning items. Even if you don’t buy from us, please recycle your toilet cleaner and spray cleaner bottles with us.  Again buying in bulk means we can pass savings onto you, for example, the toilet cleaner is 35p a bottle [750ml] cheaper. The shampoo and conditioner is ‘Coconut’, bring a small bottle if you want to try it first.

See you there
