Mohair bed blankets and smaller sofa throws from The Wool Company are made from high-quality mohair. They are incredibly soft, wonderfully light, really thick, amazingly warm and will last for many, many years. We still use one of our original mohair bed blankets every day, and it's still looking great and performing perfectly after 18 years! They are all made only with the finest mohair and premium grade fine lambswool, no artificial anything! These wonderful pieces would make the most useful and thoughtful of gifts to be used every day by the happy recipients. They are particularly good for those who feel the cold, as the mohair fibre is hollow and warms almost instantly when against the skin to provide warmth and comfort.

Mohair fibre comes from the Angora goat (not the Angora rabbit, which produces angora wool) and the fast-growing fleece is shorn twice a year from the goat. The Angora is farmed for its fleece, as it is highly prized and very valuable. It is grown mainly in Texas, the USA and South Africa as the climate is arid and dry and is perfect for these animals. Most of our mohair is from South Africa, which creates employment for a mainly female workforce who work in the mills to create the yarn and fabrics. Mohair is far rarer than cashmere and the price in recent years has hugely increased, due to its favourability for use in suiting. Unlike cheap mohair products that mohair terrible r in the 1980s, these blankets will not shed their hair constantly. H, as a highly brushed product, there will be a small amount of initial fibre loss. As with all our products, we expect this product to last, giving many years of sumptuous warmth and comfort.
