In a nutshell...

The quintessentially British-made blanket that your grandmother tucked you up in, in a versatile lightweight version, great for layering or for the warmer months.

Details

The lightweight Merino blanket from John Atkinson is a soft, warm, elegant blanket in two neutral colours, natural white, and champagne. This blanket offers a lightweight version of the heavier traditional Duchess Merino blanket. The lighter weight makes this blanket an ideal choice for the summer months or for warmer climates where natural fibres offer the greatest comfort. This pure Merino blanket is beautifully finished with a classic, wide satin binding.

John Atkinson blankets are manufactured using only the finest wool blends. From the very beginning of the process, they ensure that only the best natural fibres are used to create these beautiful blankets. All of their woollen blankets are manufactured, from raw wool to hand-finished blankets, at the mill in West Yorkshire, England, enabling complete control over the full process.

Weight: 230 gsm.

Please note: These white wool blankets are made wholly of pure new wool, they have not been bleached. The "white" in this context is a natural creamy white, not a bright "paper white"

We keep these luxury blankets in stock so we can get them to you very quickly. If you wish to have next-day delivery, please select this at the checkout.

Product Care

The manufacturer advises Professional Clean only.

Many of our customers carefully hand or machine wash their wool blankets on a cool wool setting at 30℃ using wool-approved detergent, with no spin allow to dry naturally.

Do not tumble dry.

There will always be some shrinkage after washing (usually up to around 6%)

N.B. Never use your regular laundry detergent on wool; even "gentle", or non-bio detergents usually contain bleach, which will ruin it.

Origin & Sustainability

Made in England by John Atkinson in Yorkshire. Merino wool from New Zealand Merino sheep.

Non-mulesed Merino: This wool is certified and independently audited as being shorn from sheep that have not been mulesed.

Sustainable – wool is a natural and fully sustainable fibre from a renewable source. Wool is nature’s technical wonder fibre and has many inherent qualities that can't be reproduced by manmade fibres. These inherent qualities make wool the natural choice for a good night's sleep.

Comfort – wool is comfortable due to its unique spring-like fibre structure. The natural crimp offers excellent support for all, as well as relief from bed sores and numerous other medical conditions.

Micro-climate control – wool regulates your body temperature, actively keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer. Maintaining a steady temperature also leads to a more restful sleep.

Air quality – wool fibres absorb and hold on to indoor pollutants, improving the air quality around you while you sleep.

Anti-microbial – wool blankets are naturally anti-microbial due to the fibre protein composition and unique surface scale structure on which bacteria are unable to survive.

Odour control – the moisture absorbing properties of wool absorb sweat from the skin and halt the generation of odour-causing bacteria, keeping your bedding fresher for longer.

Natural flame resistance – wool is naturally flame-resistant and self-extinguishing and doesn't melt, making for safer sleep and one of the few fibres that don't need coating in artificial flame-resistant chemicals.

Dirt repellent – the antistatic nature of wool reduces the attraction of lint and dust and the microscopic surface scales prevent dirt from penetrating the fibre surface.

Asthma-friendly – dust mites are a key trigger for Asthma attacks, they cannot survive on wool making it a perfect choice for asthma sufferers.
