Beautiful aqua hand-embroidered cashmere Hashidar pashmina, with a neat border of flowers and vines around the entire shawl in turquoise, navy, red, pink and orange.

The cashmere fibres for this shawl were sourced in July 2022 from Datt Village in Kashmir, where temperatures can reach minus 35 degrees during the Winter, the goats grow a fine long-haired undercoat that forms a natural heat-insulating shield against the cold. This fibre is light and warm with amazing insulating properties, the fibres are extremely fine varying between 9 - 16 microns.

Traditionally the de-hairing of the cashmere, the process of removing the thicker guard hair from the cashmere fibre, was carded by hand, the Indian Government has 'given' a state-of-the-art plant housing a six-stage carding machine to a cooperative society that was established to protect the Ladakhi pashmina growers.

The baby soft cashmere was spun in Kashmir where spinning is a traditional culture, and then woven in Srinagar by Mr Javed Bhat on a handloom. The thread was dyed in Hawal Srinagar. The embroidery was done in the Ghanderbal district in Kashmir and took approximately 20 days to complete. The shawl was finished at the 'finishing plant' in Hawal by Mr Zakir Wani in December 2022, where the fabric was carefully washed and finished and ready for dispatch.

The shawl will be supplied with a book entitled 'The Kashmir Shawl', which will create a backdrop for you of the 'landscape and lives' where these shawls are created.
